Airfares are taking off for summer travel

The spike in fuel prices is pressuring airline profits, and that generally means the airlines will charge higher fares. Fuel prices are typically the airlines’ highest expense after employee costs. It is a challenge to try to predict how much airfares will increase and what the timing may be on the steeper charges. The carriers have a couple options. They might raise the base fares by up to $10, or they may choose to add on fuel surcharges to each ticket. Either way, passengers will pay more to travel this summer.
